Sisyphus Bar

The team behind Hinz & Kunz returns with a forty-seat cocktail bar on the Klosterberg — a broad spirits list, room to experiment, and a deliberate turn away from the volume of the Markthalle years.

Milena Kunz spent ten years making Hinz & Kunz an institution in the Markthalle before the pandemic, the loans and a shrinking financial buffer forced it shut at the end of 2024; the Pot-Still-Bar at Barfüsserplatz went soon after. Sisyphus is the return, co-owned with Gabrielle Schatz, with Pascal Kunz on the staff. The name is only half a joke: hospitality, as Kunz puts it, is Sisyphean work — an enormous stone hauled uphill, and just as everything is running well it all briefly collapses again. That the bar sits on the Klosterberg, literally on a hill, settled it.

The room holds around forty and the list runs broad across cocktails and spirits, with the standards joined by the bar's own creations and a deliberate push into low-alcohol and alcohol-free drinks. The bigger change is the pace: two people on staff where the Markthalle had nine, which is the point rather than a compromise — space for new ideas instead of producing like a factory. There is outdoor seating too, something the old bar never had. The unit was a pharmacy in a previous life.
