Baar's old regulars' pub on Marktgasse is open again, under two new hosts who want to bring back the Bürgli of old.
Since the 1970s the Gasthaus Baarburg on Marktgasse has been the village meeting place – a Stammtisch, music, dancing and countless stories. After the last tenant went bankrupt in 2020, a local brewer and a former councillor bought the building to keep the Beiz alive, and since 1 October Ursula Eggenberger and Christian Schwery have been running it, opening with an "Antrinkete" that went from morning until midnight.
The cooking stays proudly traditional: pork Bratwurst with onion sauce and Rösti, cordon bleu, chicken schnitzel and a daily lunch plate, with Valais weeks of raclette and fondue planned. There are 30 to 40 seats around a round Stammtisch, smoke-free over lunch from 11:30 to 13:30, and a garden with a grill once the weather is warm.
