A small Vietnamese spot on Stampfenbachstrasse cooking without meat — bánh mì with house soy roast, a vegetable phở with tofu, rice-noodle salads and bowls, to eat in or take away.
Ashoka opened on 27 August 2026 on Stampfenbachstrasse in Kreis 6, signed as Vietnamese Vegetarian To Go: a counter for vegetarian and vegan Vietnamese cooking, made fresh, to eat there or take away. The soy roast and the sauces are made in house.
The card is short. The Ashoka bánh mì fills a crisp baguette with house soy roast, cucumber, peanuts, fresh herbs and sauce (16); the phở is rice noodles in vegetable broth with fresh tofu and herbs (22). A rice-noodle salad with vegetables, herbs and peanuts and a rice bowl with steamed vegetables and fried tofu or soy roast are 19.50 each. Summer rolls (two for 11.50) and a mixed salad with tofu (15.50) come first, and grilled banana in coconut milk or mango sticky rice (8 each) last. To drink there is Vietnamese coffee, black or iced with condensed milk, matcha, ginger-mint tea and a detox water that changes with the fruit and vegetables of the day.
For the start of the autumn semester it offered students 15 percent off every dish.
