Illuminarium

The winter light festival returns to the Landesmuseum courtyard with three new light shows, a two-storey fondue chalet, bars and a dance floor.

From 5 November to 30 December, the art collective PROJEKTIL turns the courtyard of the Landesmuseum into the Illuminarium, with projections across the museum's castle-like façades. This year there are three 25-minute shows: Yuki's Arctic Christmas for families, Yuki's Pixel Zoo Jungle, made with Zoo Zürich, and Art x Electronica, a digital reimagining of Paul Klee's work that runs every half hour later in the evening.

The festival grounds are free to enter; the shows are ticketed. Around them are a piazza with food stalls around fire pits – waffles, tacos, pizza and marroni – indoor and outdoor bars, and a two-storey fondue chalet that takes reservations, including for large groups. A dance area has DJs every evening, and on Sunday afternoons there is a kids' disco. From 8 pm on Thursdays to Saturdays the grounds are for over-21s only.

It runs in all weather and is cashless, and it is closed on 24 and 25 December.

**Best for:** an evening out that starts with a light show and ends with fondue or a dance.
