A new Christmas village in the courtyard of Château Gütsch, high above Luzern's old town, with street food, mulled wine and fondue with a view.
For the first time, the castle hotel Château Gütsch turns its grounds into a Christmas village. Château Noël opens on 19 November at 5 pm and runs until 20 December, high above the old town and reached by the Gütschbahn funicular.
It is a curated food village rather than a classic market: around ten stalls, each with its own style, serve street food and traditional Christmas dishes, alongside mulled-wine blends, hot chocolate and alpine drinks on a terrace with a view over the city. The highlight is Fondue with a View – tables for up to six on the castle's covered terrace or on the panorama terrace, reserved in advance, with fondue from Chäs Barmettler. Groups of 20 to 50 can book the panorama terrace exclusively.
Each evening has its own programme, with music in the chalet and concerts.
**Best for:** fondue with the lights of Luzern below, or a mulled wine after the funicular ride up.

From our guides to Luzern
- Dominik Hartmann of Magdalena Is GaultMillau's Chef of the Year 2027 — and He Doesn't Cook Meat
The dining guide's top chef title for 2027 went to a two-Michelin-star kitchen in a 700-year-old house next to the chapel it's named after, in Rickenbach SZ — the first time it's gone to someone who serves no meat at all. We were there for the announcement.
- September's New Openings — and Which Ones You Can Actually Book for an Event
An event hall built entirely for private hire, a lakeside cocktail bar already taking Christmas dinner enquiries, a rebuilt techno club that doubles as a corporate party room, and a 700-year-old Altstadt house for the client dinner that matters — the September openings worth knowing about, and what each one is actually good for.
