Chez Smith

The Smith & Smith family's Zurich wine bar takes its idea into the mountains — good wine, aperitivo and sharing plates at Andermatt Reuss, open from Friday 4 September.

Chez Smith began as the Smith & Smith family's wine bar in Zurich, and the Andermatt outpost is explicitly not a copy-paste: the same idea in its own register — a curated list, honest advice, the stories behind the bottles, and a room you can drop into for one glass or settle into for the evening. The menu is aperitivo and sharing rather than a full dinner. Cold tapas to open with, pâté, caponata and spreads served in a jar with good bread, cheese and charcuterie from the region, Luma beef tartare and carpaccio with a vegan tartare alongside, and oysters by pre-order with at least 72 hours' notice. Rotating signature bites come from the sister houses Swiss House, Biselli, Nooba and IGNIV. Find a bottle you like and you can take one home from the small retail selection.

It sits in the heart of Andermatt Reuss on Ritomgasse, a short walk from Piazza Gottardo and the railway station, with parking in the Andermatt Reuss underground car park. Walk-ins are welcome and tables can be booked ahead. An events programme is still building out — guided tastings, winemaker evenings, aperitivo sessions and laid-back DJ nights — with the first dates yet to be announced.
